Valhalla

For yon wee Magdalene.

Ready for Valhalla.

The Heroe's Quest"
by Ron McVan

I draw my strength from an ageless spring
Through blood and long tradition -
On mountains high in azure sky
My Gods direct my mission.

I heed the words of Wotan well
As he leads me on my task,
And a thousand voices from an age unknown
Ring down from a mystic past.

And I long to reach Valhalla,
And I yearn for the days of glory,
And I clutch that life of greatness -
As in legend, fame and story.

There's a swelling in my spirit -
There's a time for do or die;
I'll know it when I hear it -
It's as clear as Wotan's eye.

Life is just a schoolroom
Until our final day;
And who are we to question
The Laws of Nature's Way?

To thyself be true, and Family, too,
For my race I pledge my all;
And when life's toil has run me hard
I'll still be standing tall.

It's the mystery of the blood, they say,
The spirit of our kind -
That binds us in this mortal clay
And charts the course through time.

Many fight for freedom,
Though never are they free;
But I fight to make my people proud -
The best that I can be.
A striving to the higher self -
The best that I can be.

And I long to reach Valhalla,
And I yearn for the days of glory,
And I clitch that life of greatness -
As in legend, fame and story.

Yay! That's the spirit you old bear. It's time you guys realised that long gone are the days of dragging us around by our hair. We fair maidens prefer the poetic to the pillaging any day. And please scrape that roast boar grease out of your beard. It's most unsightly.

Isn't Valhalla the next mountain to Helvellyn in the Lake District?

>a thousand voices from an age unknown

Ooooh! Iambic pentameter!

VW. There's a little poser for you over at my place that you need to answer in person, I believe.

One elderberry water, green tea and nettle juice shaken and not stirred please but hold the 'shit' because I am on a diet.

Oh and one of those rufty tufty Viking ginger bread men too please

Valhalla, isn't that the place where poets and authors sit around drinking absinthe. Oh no, that's Montmartre.

Oh OK, I'll have to find somewhere else for my weekend break.

Pity, the water looked nice in the photo...

Come to think of it, that guy looks like my next door neighbor after he caught me tossing my slugs and snails over into his garden because I was too kindhearted to squash them.

Thanks for visiting my whence bohemia? site with your most amusing comment, you are always welcome.

Viking Warrior, thanks for you interesting comment on my whence bohemia? blog about making soup out of the snails and slugs in my garden instead of throwing them over into the neighbor's garden.

If snail soup has the same projectile spewing effect on me as shell fish, I would indeed be master of a formidable weapon.

Perhaps thence lies a new calling. Placed in the bow of Viking boats and fed a diet of snails and shell fish, all enemies would flee before the power and potency of the foul smelling streams of vomit.

Thank you for defending me on bluecollar's blog Viking. We've both been deleted now.
I do so very much like your pictures. You and Rex should have a blog competition to see who can get the goriest pictures.
Did you take the photo yourself.
Lorenzo.

In this day when Wotan rules, glorious cries of victory rang out across yon seas to the fatherland recounting the bloodyest of battles to quell dissident hordes that dared to question the supremacy of the cider swilling Angles of Minehead by the Sea.

Let those who darest question that Hopcott's dynasty will reign for a thousand years look on with fear as Hopcott's mighty sward didst twist and turn round shot over barriers of rope and steel and the cry went out from all

That's enough to make any lass swoon. Or at least get the blood plumping. What other talents do you have?

Viking Warrior said...

Yon lass from Moari land, I couldest keep thee spellbound with Norse yarns.

Ju's little sister said...

Yarns as in the string, or blood stirring, heart rendering, swoon-ful tales of the bravest, the boldest, the most mighty of all warriors?

PS, do Vikings need to spell properly? Only it's Maori, you mixed up the o and a. But then I make typo-syntaxual errors all the time, so I guess I can't talk.

What yarn wilst thou fill mine soul with next, pray tell?

In this day when Wotan rules, vexed cries of misery rang out over yon turbulent seas to the fatherland recounting the bloodiest of battles betwixt fair matron and wrinkled sage.

Loud and long they wept and wailed 'til screams and anguish did echo through the Northern Mountains where ancestors of Vikings brave now lie wakened with the sound.

And bloody was the torment wreaked on Sages cheek by the aged devil matron that knowest no fear.

Ouch! Dammit ... forgot Valentines day, didn't I :-(

That's your first concession to crudeness, Viking Warrior. Are we going to see a downhill trend?

I want to know what he's been up to lately on the pillaging front. There's been a lot of uneccessary littering and vandalism in Torquay lately.
